Nebraska (1-0) hosts Bowling Green (0-1) on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. The Huskers are coming off a 49-21 victory over Ohio last Saturday.
Bowling Green lost its season opener to Tarleton State 20-13 in Week 1. Tarleton State is the No. 5 team in the FCS rankings.
The Falcons are coached by Eddie George, the 1995 Heisman Trophy winner. George is in his second season at BGSU (4-9) and his sixth season overall (28-31) as a college head coach after leading Tennessee State from 2021 to 2024.
George met with the media earlier in the week to discuss last week's loss and this week's matchup with the Huskers. He spoke highly of Nebraska coach Matt Rhule and what he's building in Lincoln.
"Tremendous respect for Coach Rhule and his coaching staff.
I've watched Coach Rhule throughout the years. I've known him for a while. We're not the best of friends, but we have a great conversation when we see each other. He's a Penn State guy. He's tough. He's built some really strong, potent teams throughout the years, going to his days at Temple, the Broad Street Bullies, and then on to Baylor. Of course, the NFL stint, now in Nebraska, he believes in physical football. You’re going to see duo, you’re going to see counter power. You’re going to see his offensive, defensive line, control the line of scrimmage. And that's what we aim to do. That's how we want to play and we’re going to get a 60 minutes of that. Excited for our kids to be in an exciting environment at 7 p.m., a night game and historical venue. It's going to be one that we want to go get ready for and put our best foot forward."
The Huskers will host the Falcons in an NCAA record 412th consecutive sellout. George was also asked about Bowling Green playing in an atmosphere like Memorial Stadium.
"I mean, we can try to pump sound into the scoreboard, but I don't think it'll do any justice. But we're going to prepare as if it's going to be loud. So we're going to have to do some hand signaling to communicate. It's going to be a great opportunity for Jay to play in this environment. He's played in front of big crowds, but I'm not sure if he played in front of 100,000 strong. It's going to be a great environment for all of our kids to experience that. We're going to have to do some things this week to really rely on hand signaling, being able to communicate loud and boisterous because that's going to be key for us to get in the right place, the right time, to make the right fit, to make the right call and execute."
Nebraska hosts Bowling Green on Saturday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and the game can be seen on FS1.
