A Nebraska quarterback commit issued a statement after a major roster announcement for the 2027 season. Five-star quarterback Trae Taylor went to social media to comment on the return of Husker starting QB Anthony Colandrea for next year.
Colandrea announced on Friday that he signed a deal to return to Nebraska in 2027 for his fifth and final year of eligibility. According to Husker Online, he is expected to be one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in college football next year.
In seven games this season, Colandrea threw for 1,570 yards and 14 touchdowns, while throwing four interceptions and completing 63% of his passes. He's also run for 334 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Taylor is one of the top-ranked quarterbacks in the class of 2027.
He took the field for Millard South High School shortly after making his statement and led his team to a 56-7 victory over Standing Bear High.
The five-star recruit has thrown for 2,946 yards, 35 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 64% of his passes. He's also had an impressive season on the ground with 782 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns this year.
Taylor is thrilled at the possibility of spending his freshman season learning under Colandrea. He also hopes that backup TJ Lateef sticks around for the 2027 campaign.
"I absolutely love that he is coming back and hope TJ stays I can learn a ton from both. I respect every QB in that room as all of them have been helpful to me already. This changes absolutely nothing for my commitment and I’m 100% locked in. Looking forward to coming in and competing and learning. Hope that answers everyone’s questions on where me and my family stand."
Taylor is a member of the Nebraska class of 2027. The class of 2027 holds 21 commits and ranks 6th in the Big Ten and 18th in the nation, according to Rivals.
My phone is blowing up wanting interviews about Ant coming back. I’ll post it here and get back focused on my game tonight. I absolutely love that he is coming back and hope TJ stays I can learn a ton from both. I respect every QB in that room as all of them have been helpful… https://t.co/AVEj93nWFA
