The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team (8-0) hosts the No. 20 North Carolina Tar Heels (4-2) on Friday night. This is the opening match of the Ameritas Players Challenge.
Nebraska remained ranked No. 1 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, released Sept. 14. It's the Huskers' 127th week at No. 1 in the AVCA Coaches Poll, the most of any program in the nation.
The two schools have split their two all-time meetings. The Huskers and Tar Heels last met in 1996, when North Carolina won in five sets.
Sophomore middle blocker Manaia Ogbechie was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday. In the three matches, Ogbechie totaled 33 kills while hitting .547 and adding 12 blocks.
UNC is led by Safi Hampton, who averages 65 kills and 3.10 points per set. Jackie
Taylor leads in blocks (25) and service aces (9).
