After opening the season with a sweep over UNLV on Saturday, No. 1 Nebraska volleyball (1-0) faces No. 2 Texas (2-1) on Sunday in the Players Era Volleyball Showcase. This is the 58th meeting between these two schools, with the Huskers holding a 33-25 advantage over the Longhorns.
This is also the first time these two teams have met since the 2023 national championship, where Texas won in straight sets. Sunday's match is the 43rd time No. 1 has played No. 2, including the 34th time in the regular season. The last time No. 1 played No. 2 was in 2023 when Nebraska played Wisconsin.
Nebraska opened the season winning the exhibition Spikes Under the Lights championship in Arlington, Texas. On Thursday, the Huskers swept No. 17 Florida (21-19, 21-18)
in the semifinal and No. 11 SMU (21-12, 21-11) in the championship. The Longhorns enter the matchup fresh off a sweep against No. 18 TCU in the Players Era Showcase after surviving a five-set battle at Marquette and falling in four sets to No. 12 Arizona State.
The Huskers won their third straight Big Ten title in 2025 with a 20-0 conference record. Nebraska's offense (.351) and defense (.129) were ranked first nationally last season. The Huskers' hitting percentage broke the previous school record of .331 in 1986.
