Despite recent speculation, Peyton Manning is not expected to be in the mix for the Indianapolis Colts GM opening, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"The Colts have not approached Manning about their vacant GM job, nor would the Hall of Fame quarterback be expected to be interested in the position, according to sources," wrote Schefter. "Manning has not trained nor aspired to become a GM in the NFL, not with all that he has going on in his life."
Schefter adds that Manning would be "willing to listen and consider NFL opportunities at any time." However, the Colts have not approached him as of now.
"It's possible that some could come in the future, sources said, but those discussions likely would involve higher-profile positions similar to the ones
that other former NFL quarterbacks have accepted with other franchises," Schefter wrote.
Recent examples of former players stepping into football operations roles include Tony Boselli with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Matt Ryan with the Atlanta Falcons.
The Colts fired GM Chris Ballard earlier in the week, with assistant GM Ed Dodds stepping into the interim role.
Although the Colts are currently sitting at 2-4 on the season, the belief is that Indianapolis will attempt to turn things around in the coming weeks. However, if they are unable to do so, they could become sellers at the trade deadline, with several players already drawing interest.
