The Indianapolis Colts didn't receive much praise for their 2026 preseason, with CBS Sports handing the team a C-minus grade after a winless three-game exhibition slate.
CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan
pointed to Indianapolis’ lack of proven depth, particularly at quarterback, as the biggest concern coming out of August. The Colts finished 0-2-1 while holding Daniel Jones and several other key starters out for most of the preseason.He also mentioned the Colts' newest wide receiver, who had some legal trouble.
Meanwhile, wideout Kennan Allen, who signed with the Colts in mid-August, was just arrested on DWI charges and could face league discipline
Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson Sr. received the bulk of the quarterback work. Leonard completed 20
of 42 passes for 199 yards with two interceptions, while Richardson went 21 of 33 for 249 yards with one interception and added 68 rushing yards.
Richardson showed flashes, especially in the preseason opener against the New England Patriots, when he completed 11 of 14 passes for 145 yards and rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown. The overall results were less consistent across all three games.
Indianapolis ultimately kept Jones, Leonard and Richardson on its initial 53-man roster, giving the Colts three quarterbacks entering the regular season.
The depth concerns along the offensive line and at cornerback grew as the preseason unfolded.
The C-minus grade doesn't say much about the top of Indianapolis’ roster because so many starters were protected. It does, however, underline a lingering question about how well equipped the Colts are to absorb injuries if their depth is tested once the games count.
