The Indianapolis Colts have made a surprise move during roster cutdown day.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Colts are releasing defensive tackle Colby Wooden.
Indianapolis acquired Wooden in a trade with the Green Bay Packers earlier this offseason. The Colts would send linebacker Zaire Franklin to the Packers as part of that deal.

The thought was that Wooden was going to be a rotational member of the Colts' defensive front behind DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart. Wooden is versatile, able to line up across multiple gaps, and can defend both the run and pass.
That said, the fact that
Wooden played 26 snaps in the preseason finale and was in the game later on was perhaps a sign of what was to come. Typically, those are snaps played by players who won't be on the roster.
The defensive tackle depth struggled this summer. Free agent signees Jerry Tillery and Derrick Nnadi did not make much of an impact in the preseason.
