Following the Indianapolis Colts'42-7 loss in Jacksonville, head coach Shane Steichen said that everything will be evaluated, and that includes the quarterback position.
In previous weeks, Steichen has remained committed to Jones being the starter, but his tone after Sunday's loss was different.
Afterward, Richardson was asked about the potential opportunity ahead.
"I can't really focus too much on it," Richardson said, via The Athletic's James Boyd. "Just gotta keep doing what I been doing. Come in the building, showing up to work, just preparing like I was gonna be the starter regardless. Regardless of what decision he makes just gotta make sure I'm prepared when my number is called."

In the fourth quarter against Jacksonville, Jones headed to the bench, leaving Richardson to take over. Up to that point, Jones was 19 of 28 passing for 144 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions -- one of which went through Tyler Warren's hands and was returned for a touchdown.
Richardson finished Sunday's game -- his first regular-season action since Week 5 of last year -- completing both passes for eight yards. He ran for four yards as well.
"Yeah, we were just down so many scores and we started subbing," Steichen said, via Colts.com. "We got DJ Giddens in there, Anthony got in there and got some reps at the end."
Turnovers continue to be an issue for Jones, as does his decision-making and accuracy at times. That said, there hasn't been a lot of help around Jones this season either, although the team was certainly expecting more from him when they signed him to this deal in the offseason.
For Richardson, Sunday's game was his first regular-season action since Week 5 of the 2025 season, after an eye injury sidelined him for much of last year.
