The Indianapolis Colts made legitimate moves in their wide receiver room this offseason, but a national outlet still views the position as a potential weak spot.
CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani picked wide receiver as the reason the Colts could disappoint their fan base this season. Dajani questioned whether the group around quarterback Daniel Jones has enough to meet expectations, with Alec Pierce coming off ankle surgery and Keenan Allen entering his age-34 season.
"Will Daniel Jones' wide receiving corps be good enough? The Indianapolis Colts gave Alec Pierce the largest contract for a wide receiver in free-agency history, and it's unknown if he can be a legitimate No. 1 wideout," Dajani wrote.
Pierce returned to practice on Aug. 27 after spending
training camp and the preseason on the active/PUP list. The Colts re-signed him in March following a breakout 2025 season in which he caught 47 passes for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns while leading the NFL in yards per reception for the second straight year.
Indianapolis also added Allen on Aug. 19, handing the offense a proficient veteran alongside Pierce and Josh Downs. Ashton Dulin, Laquon Treadwell, and Deion Burks round out the wide receiver group on the initial 53-man roster.
The concern is understandable given Pierce’s limited preparation time. But if Pierce is healthy and Allen can provide stout production, Jones should have a varied and worthy collection of targets as Indianapolis looks to get back into the postseason mix.
