Following a good performance from Anthony Richardson in the Indianapolis Colts' preseason opener, he built upon that outing in the team's latest training camp practice.
Saturday's practice was shorter, and the emphasis was on the red zone. There, according to Joel Erickson of the Indy Star, Richardson was efficient, completing 5-of-7 passes. Erickson adds that Richardson's best play came on a shovel pass to running back Ulysses Bentley while on the run.
Riley Leonard, who had more of an up-and-down showing in the Colts' preseason game, found success as well during Saturday's practice, finishing the day 5-of-8, which included three late completions, per Erickson.
Richardson's play against New England wasn't perfect by any means, with the offense
getting off to a slow start. He also fumbled and was credited with an interception that went through the hands of wide receiver Coleman Owen.
But that said, the performance was largely encouraging. He was efficient, generated several chunk passing plays, and made plays with the ball in his hands. He also put the offense in scoring position twice.
Richardson and Leonard are competing for the backup quarterback role. After Richardson started against New England, Leonard will get the start against Atlanta.
