Early in the 2026 offseason, there were reports that Rivers was drawing head-coaching interest at the NFL level.
Rivers returned to the NFL last season to quarterback the Colts after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending injury.
Prior to joining NC State, Rivers was the head coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama. His son, Gunner Rivers, plays quarterback and will attend NC State.
Rivers spent 18 seasons in the NFL, most
of which came with the Chargers, but he had two stints as the Colts' quarterback, which included leading Indianapolis to the playoffs in 2020.
Rivers is an eight-time Pro Bowler.
