Ahead of the regular season opener, theIndianapolis Colts could add defensive depth by pursuing a player already familiar with the coaching staff.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox named the Colts one of two logical landing spots for veteran cornerback Nick McCloud on Friday. The Chicago Bears were the other team listed.
Knox mentioned McCloud’s connection with Colts defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson as a reason Indianapolis could make sense.
“A Bears reunion could make sense, as could a reunion with Colts defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson,” Knox wrote.
McCloud became available after the Miami Dolphins released him Aug. 22. He had signed with Miami only two weeks earlier.
Henderson spent five seasons as the New York Giants’ defensive backs
coach before joining Indianapolis in 2025. McCloud played for Henderson in New York and produced one of his best seasons in 2023, when he appeared in 17 games and allowed a 72.4 opposing passer rating, per Bleacher Report.
The 28-year-old has appeared in 63 career games with 20 starts and also brings special teams experience.
Indianapolis has abundant talent atop its cornerback room, but the depth of that unit is in question. McCloud’s relationship with Henderson adds intrigue as roster decisions approach.
