We're only three games into the 2026 NFL season, butIndianapolis Colts'quarterback Daniel Jones is on pace for one of the lowest yards per pass attempt rates of his career.
Entering Week 4, Jones is averaging a very modest 6.2 yards per attempt. Compared to the rest of the quarterbacks league-wide, he ranks 31st in that category.
Excluding Jones' 2023 season, when he played in just six games, his career-low YPA is 6.1, which occurred during the 2024 season with the Giants, when Jones played in only 10 games.
This current production comes after Jones set a career-high in yards per attempt last season, averaging 8.1 yards per throw. That ranked fourth across the NFL in 2025.
As ESPN's Stephen Holder noted, Jones' current YPA trajectory is likely less
about him and more about Alec Pierce being sidelined. Without Pierce's vertical presence, that element has been missing from the Indianapolis offense.
Without Pierce, the Colts will have to find "creative ways" to generate downfield opportunities, as Holder put it. The addition of Darius Slayton should help as well.
