The Indianapolis Colts could have opportunities to acquire additional draft capital ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
ESPN analyst Bill Barnwell has proposed two hypothetical deals that would send Colts veterans to NFC contenders.
In his October 22 trade deadline column
, Barnwell floated the idea of Indianapolis trading defensive tackle Grover Stewart to the San Francisco 49ers and kicker Spencer Shrader to the Los Angeles Rams.Neither proposal is a reported negotiation, but both reflect the unpredictable nature around Indianapolis following general manager Chris Ballard's firing.
Barnwell's first proposal would send Stewart and a seventh-round pick to San Francisco in exchange for a sixth-round selection.
Stewart, 33, is heading into the final
months of his contract. He would bolster the 49ers' run defense while allowing Indianapolis to improve its draft position as opposed to losing him in free agency.
Barnwell's second proposal catches the eye.
He suggested the Rams send a fifth-round pick to Indianapolis for Shrader, who has emerged as one of the NFL's most reliable kickers. Per the Colts' official statistics, Shrader has converted all 18 field-goal attempts this season, including six from at least 50 yards.
Although receiving a fifth-round selection would help Indianapolis replenish its draft capital, trading Shrader would cause an extra roster vacancy.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Wednesday that rival teams believe the Colts will be receptive to trade discussions, although for now, it's a wait-and-see approach regarding Indianapolis making a move before the November 10 trade deadline.
