As we continue to look back at the Indianapolis Colts' Week 3 performance against the Houston Texans, which players received the highest grades fromPro Football Focus, and which received the lowest?
Now, before we dive into all that, I do want to mention that while PFF's grading system is certainly helpful at quantifying a player's performance, it is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to evaluations. It is one tool out of many that are out there and should be treated as such.
For some context around these grades, below is the grading scale.
- 90.0+: Elite
- 80-89.9: High quality
- 70-79.9: Good
- 60-69.9: Above average
- 50-59.9: Average
- 40-49.9: Below average
- 39.9 or less: Poor
Colts' 5 highest-graded players on offense v. Texans
- TE Mo Alie-Cox: 91.5
- WR Josh Downs: 82.1
- LT Bernhard Raimann: 72.6
- TE Tyler Warren: 69.8
- WR Keenan Allen: 68.4
Downs and Allen were go-to targets for Daniel Jones, particularly over the middle of the field. Alie-Cox -- as he does -- held up well as a blocker, while Warren hauled in nine receptions. Raimann allowed
just one pressure.
Colts' 5 highest-graded players on defense v. Texans
- DT Grover Stewart: 80.2
- DT Adetomiwa Adebawore: 76.7
- DT Tim Smith: 76.2
- DT DeForest Buckner: 73.7
- S AJ Haulcy: 73.5
As you can see from the grades, a lot of the success that the Colts' defense had started with the interior defensive line. The Colts held up very well against the run and were able to get after CJ Stroud more than they have in previous weeks.
Colts 3 lowest-graded players overall v. Texans
- DT Jerry Tillery: 31.7
- DE Caden Curry: 32.8
- LB Bryce Boettcher: 45.8
Tillery logged one tackle and no pressures over 26 snaps. Curry's run defense brought down his overall grade, although he played just nine snaps. Boettcher's coverage grade of 41.9 brought down his grade.
