Shane Steichen has watched Jonathan Taylor produce from the sideline, but the Indianapolis Colts coach said reviewing the running back’s all-time body of work afterward provides more appreciation for what Taylor has accomplished.
Speaking with reporters ahead of Week 1, Steichen pointed to Taylor’s career production while discussing what stands out about the veteran.
“When you’re in the moment of the game, you’re just playing the game, coaching the game,” Steichen said, via Roundtable.io's Jake Arthur. “But after you look back and watch the tape and the stuff that he puts out, the numbers he’s put up throughout his whole career have been awesome. And obviously, we want to continue that trend this year with him.”
Taylor enters 2026 coming off one
of the best seasons of his career, rushing for 1,585 yards and 18 touchdowns in 17 games last season. Additionally, he notched 378 receiving yards with two more scores.
The 27-year-old has 7,598 rushing yards and 69 rushing touchdowns through six NFL seasons. His 2025 rushing total was the second-highest of his career, as his 18 rushing scores matched the career high he set in 2021.
Steichen also made clear Taylor is ready for another run.
“I know he’s ripping and roaring and ready to go,” Steichen said. “He feels great. So we’re excited for him this season, for sure.”
