With the Indianapolis Colts' sell-off underway after trading away DeForest Buckner and Quenton Nelson, what's the latest on Jonathan Taylor, another potential trade candidate?
Ian Rapoport recently reported that the Colts view Taylor as "a big part of their franchise turnaround," adding that acquiring Taylor via trade would be pricey.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently shared what he is hearing about the NFL's top trade candidates ahead of the deadline and echoed similar sentiments.
"Teams I've talked to aren't totally sold that Indianapolis will trade Taylor despite heavy interest -- at least not yet," Fowler wrote. "He is signed long term and would be a boon for next year's coaching staff, whether it's the current group or entirely new."
Although Taylor
just signed a two-year, $44 million contract extension prior to the season, thecontract is movable if needed.
With the Colts entering rebuild mode, the team must determine whether they'd rather have the additional draft capital that would come with a trade, or keep Taylor on a roster that is likely to be uncompetitive next season.
Although the sense right now is that the Colts would prefer to keep Taylor, Fowler added that Kenneth Walker's success in Kansas City, paired with Indianapolis' season getting ugly, "affects all key players and could spark even more movement."
