Matt Okada of NFL.com believes that the Houston Texans' David Montgomery is the fantasy football "start of the week" at the running back position against the Indianapolis Colts'defense in Week 3.
Through two games, Montgomery has totaled just 70 rushing yards, averaging only 2.7 yards per rush. This includes recording just 10 rushing yards in the Texans' Week 2 loss to Cincinnati.
However, Okada believes that Montgomery is a must-start because of his opponent -- the Colts' run defense. While the play of the Colts' secondary has garnered much of the attention, the run defense has struggled mightily as well through two weeks.
"After facing Derrick Henry and Kenneth Walker III, the Colts' run defense is bottom three in rush yards over expected per
carry (1.0), success rate (51.5%), EPA/carry (0.22), yards before contact per carry (a wild 3.5) and explosive runs (10)," wrote Okada. "They've also surrendered nine red-zone trips, tied for the second-most in the league. Montgomery will find the end zone again this Sunday."
The Colts' defense is off to an abysmal start -- you name it, and it's probably gone wrong.
Entering Week 3, the Colts rank 31st in yards per rush allowed, 32nd in yards per pass attempt allowed, and 30th in pressure rate. Missed tackles and blown assignments at each level have been regular contributors to these issues.
