Following a disappointing Week 1 loss for the Indianapolis Colts, which players received the highest grades fromPro Football Focus, and which received the lowest?
Now, before we dive into all that, I do want to mention that while PFF's grading system is certainly helpful at quantifying a player's performance, it is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to evaluations. It is one tool out of many that are out there and should be treated as such.
For some context around these grades, below is the grading scale.
- 90.0+: Elite
- 80-89.9: High quality
- 70-79.9: Good
- 60-69.9: Above average
- 50-59.9: Average
- 40-49.9: Below average
- 39.9 or less: Poor
Colts' 5 highest-graded players on offense
- G Matt Goncalves: 92.1
- G Quenton Nelson: 83.3
- RT Jalen Travis: 78.8
- WR Alec Pierce: 78.6
- LT Bernhard Raimann: 70.7
One of the few bright spots in this game was the play of Jonathan Taylor, particularly during the second half. And, of course, those running lanes were paved by the offensive line unit. That group also surrendered just six pressures over
140 combined pass-blocking snaps. Pierce led the team in receiving with 61 yards.

- DE Arden Key: 74.3
- DE Micheal Clemons: 64.2
- DT Adetomiwa Adebawore: 62.9
- LB Akeem Davis-Gaither: 62.3
- DT DeForest Buckner: 61.1
Not many above-average grades for the Colts' defense after struggling mightily to slow Baltimore, and not surprisingly, none of the top performers played in the secondary. Key logged three pressures and a sack. Clemons held up well against the run by PFF's metrics. Davis-Gaither received a positive run defense grade as well. Buckner led the defense with six pressures.
Colts' 5 lowest-graded players overall
- TE Drew Ogletree: 29.4
- S AJ Haulcy: 32.4
- DT Grover Stewart: 32.9
- CB Charvarius Ward: 37.8
- LB Jaylon Carlies: 40.3
Ogletree only played six snaps. He had one reception for no yards. Haulcy surrendered two receptions for 64 yards, and Ward two receptions for 57 yards. Over 42 snaps for Carlies, he had two pressures and no tackles. Stewart had two pressures, but received a run-blocking grade of 31.5.
