The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a rough season-opening loss, but Pro Football Focus sees their offensive line as one of the NFL’s best regardless.
PFF’s Gordon McGuinness ranked Indianapolis No. 4 in his updated offensive line rankings after Week 1, trailing only the Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Colts’ placement was supported by a strong individual showing from right guard Matt Goncalves. McGuinness noted that Goncalves produced a 100% PFF pass-block win rate in the loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
"The Colts’ offense struggled to deal with the blitz packages brought by Jesse Minter’s defense, but that was less about the offensive linemen losing their one-on-one matchups," McGuinness wrote.
The Colts also
graded well in the running game. Four of their five starting offensive linemen earned PFF run-blocking grades above 65.0.
That group -- Bernhard Raimann at left tackle, Quenton Nelson at left guard, Tanor Bortolini at center, Goncalves at right guard and Jalen Travis at right tackle -- will now get a noteworthy test in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Overall for Indianapolis, maintaining the level of individual blocking PFF saw in Week 1 could serve as a critical strength with the offense looking to rebound.
