ESPN NFL insiders Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano shared some of the latest intel and buzz that they are hearing heading into Week 5, and the Indianapolis Colts made an appearance.
As Fowler and Graziano were discussing which teams need to make a trade, specifically at the wide receiver position, Fowler brought up the Colts as a candidate.
"Another team to watch at receiver is the Colts, who are 2-2 with Pittsburgh and Tennessee coming up," wrote Fowler. "They could easily be sitting at 4-2 after those two games despite a depleted receiving crew, and Indy is not hiding from being all-in to win now. Perhaps there's not a splash move that fits, but how about one that brings an upside receiver for a quality Day 3 pick?"
As Adam Schefter did, Fowler
brought up the Cardinals' Marvin Harrison Jr. as a potential fit. Fowler also noted that the midseason return of Alec Pierce could lessen the Colts' desire to make a trade at this position.
What the Colts' passing game is desperately missing right now is Pierce's downfield abilities. Without it, not only are the Colts struggling to generate explosive plays, but defenses are defending the Indianapolis offense more aggressively, which makes moving the ball on short-to-intermediate throws more difficult as well.
If the Colts do end up interested in making a trade at some point, two potential hurdles include their relative lack of draft capital and whether or not it makes sense for the GM who is on the hot seat to be giving up future draft picks.
