The Indianapolis Colts gave Anthony Richardson permission to seek a trade earlier this offseason, but an NFL writer doesn't expect a deal to materialize before roster cuts.
Bleacher Report's Moe Moton placed Richardson on his trade probability meter Thursday and gave the former No. 4 overall pick a 2 out of 10 chance of being moved before cutdowns take place.
Moton pointed to Indianapolis' quarterback depth and Daniel Jones' injury history as reasons the Colts could benefit from keeping Richardson around.
"Even though the Colts' QB1 is on track to play in Week 1, assistant general manager Ed Dodds wants to keep three capable signal-callers, which means Anthony Richardson may remain in Indianapolis for at least another year," Moton wrote.
Dodds recently
told ESPN the Colts "want to have three" quarterbacks capable of playing, an understandable stance after Indianapolis used three starters last season.
Jones is back on the field after suffering a torn Achilles in December. Richardson, meanwhile, is competing with Riley Leonard for the backup job after missing most of last season because of a fractured orbital bone.
Richardson requested a trade this offseason, but general manager Chris Ballard has repeatedly left the door open for him to stay in Indianapolis.
His market could also complicate a potential move. Richardson has completed 50.6% of his career passes with 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, with injuries limiting his opportunities.
The Colts may ultimately decide his value as quarterback insurance exceeds whatever draft compensation another team is willing to offer.
For now, Bleacher Report expects that calculation to keep Richardson in Indianapolis past cutdown day.
