It's only Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season, but the Indianapolis Colts already find themselves in a must-win situation against the Kansas City Chiefs.

History tells us that an 0-2 start is nearly impossible to overcome.

According toEric Edholm of Yahoo! Sports, since the NFL expanded the NFL schedule to 17 games, only eight of the 40 teams to start 0-2 since 2021 have made the postseason.

Zooming out even further,NFL.comnoted that from 1990 to 2024, only 35 of the 288 teams to start 0-2 went on to make the playoffs.

In addition to having to potentially overcome history, the Colts also have a lot on their own end to figure out. The defense in particular struggled mightily in Week 1, surrendering over 500 yards of offense and 41 points to the Baltimore

Ravens.

Awaiting the Colts in Week 2 is a road matchup with Kansas City. The schedule doesn't get any easier after that either, with matchups against Houston, Washington -- which is in London -- and Pittsburgh all upcoming.

So although 16 games still remain in the season, it's not hyperbole to say that this week's game is a must-win.
