A bold prediction for Sunday's Colts vs. Commandersgame centers around the matchup between the Washington wide receivers and the Indianapolis cornerbacks.
The Commanders' passing attack features Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs at wide receiver. The duo has caught 23 passes for 276 yards with four touchdowns through three games.
Attempting to contain McLaurin and Diggs will be the Colts' Charvarius Ward and Sauce Gardner. However, ESPN's Seth Walder is predicting that Diggs, in particular, will have a good day on Sunday, recording at least 85 receiving yards.
"So far, Diggs' season high is 55 yards," wrote Walder. "He has posted a solid 1.8 yards per route run this season, but the fact that he is being targeted on 33% of his routes suggests his production
could be even stronger going forward."
As expected, both Gardner and Ward have been stingy in coverage, allowing completion rates this season of 50% or lower. However, both have been susceptible at times to surrendering some chunk plays. Gardner is giving up 16.4 yards per catch and Ward 17.0 yards per reception.
The Colts' ability to generate pressure on the quarterback in this game will help out the secondary by disrupting the timing and rhythm of the play. The Commanders rank 28th in pressure rate allowed this season.
It also remains to be seen whether it will be Jayden Daniels, who is working through an elbow injury, or Marcus Mariota starting at quarterback for Washington.
