Keenan Allen could pass an Indianapolis Colts legend in his potential return to the lineup on Sunday.
Allen needs three receptions to move past Colts receivers coach Reggie Wayne for 11th place on the NFL’s all-time receptions list, per the Associated Press. Wayne finished his 14-year playing career with 1,070 catches.
Allen currently sits at 1,068 receptions after catching 13 passes for 100 yards and one touchdown through his first three games with Indianapolis. The 34-year-old missed last week’s game against the Washington Commanders because of a groin injury.
His status is worth monitoring ahead of Sunday’s road matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Allen was a limited participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday while continuing to deal with the groin
issue.
Passing Wayne would notch an extra milestone to Allen’s accomplished career. When Indianapolis signed the six-time Pro Bowler in August, the Colts highlighted his opportunity to soar several spots on the league’s career receptions leaderboard.
There would be some symmetry in Allen moving past Wayne while wearing a Colts uniform, especially with Wayne now coaching him as Indianapolis’ wide receivers coach.
