The Colts lost by a score of 16-10 to the Minnesota Vikings, lengthening their losing streak to three games and dropping to 2-5.
Indianapolis led 10-6 at halftime but failed to score after the break.
Today's setback falls amid a turbulent stretch for the organization less than a week after firing general manager Chris Ballard.
Steichen is now tasked with steadying a team whose season continues to slip away.
The Colts, at least, were able to stay competitive against an unbeaten opponent. Jonathan Taylor notched a 38-yard touchdown run, and Indianapolis' defense kept Minnesota within reach throughout the afternoon.
But the Colts again were unable to capture a victory. Two missed field goals hurt, and the passing game struggled to spur enough offense to finish the job.
At 2-5, the Colts can't keep letting winnable games escape, especially if they'd like to stop more organizational turnover.
