It was another ugly game for the Indianapolis Colts in their most recent loss against the Minnesota Vikings. Their only touchdown was in the first quarter on a Jonathan Taylor run and they lost the game despite holding Minnesota to just 16 points.
Quarterback Daniel Jones had another bad performance with only 108 passing yards and a game-sealing interception with 1:15 left in the game. Indianapolis punted the ball four times, marking their third game with at least four punts. Their 10 points in this game are also their fewest points in a game this season.
Here is a look at the good, bad, and ugly from the Indianapolis Colts’ fifth loss of the season and third straight loss against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Good
Jonathan Taylor: This may have been one of
Taylor’s best games of the season. He finally had a run over 25 yards on his 38-yard touchdown and also averaged 5.3 yards per carry, his highest in a game this season. Taylor had more total yards than quarterback Daniel Jones had passing yards. While he is the best part of this offense right now, he also may be on the trading block given all of Indianapolis’ needs and the draft capital they gave up for Sauce Gardner.
Adetomiwa Adebawore: Indianapolis’ defense kept them in the game all four quarters. Adebawore was a key part of that defense with four solo tackles, a pass defended, and two sacks. It is his first career game with at least two sacks and second game of the year with more than one sack after recording 1.5 sacks in Week 3’s win against the Houston Texans. As the Colts look to rebuild, Adebawore is someone they should keep around on defense.
The Bad
Time to sell?: The Indianapolis Colts should be sellers before the trade deadline. Their offense reached a low point in this game, even with Jonathan Taylor’s 95-yard game. If they cannot win a game while holding the opponent to 16 points because they were unable to score a touchdown after the first quarter, it is time to reset.
Laiatu Latu: In his first seven games of the season, Latu has not done much as a pass rusher, including in this game when he only had one tackle and a quarterback hit. Especially as a team that is rebuilding, they need their young defenders to perform, and so far, that is not happening. Perhaps he will get going in the second half of the season.
The Ugly
Daniel Jones: Jones has at least one turnover in every game this season except their Week 5 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. His inefficiency on offense is a big reason Indianapolis is 2-5 so far this year. Even with how bad they were all game, the Colts had a shot at the end, but Jones threw an interception to Harrison Smith. Turnovers, poor decisions, and off-target throws have been common this season from Jones.
Wide receivers: Indianapolis’ leading receiver in this game was Keenan Allen with three receptions for 31 yards. The Colts have no downfield presence without Alec Pierce and have been one of the worst teams in the NFL in getting yards after the catch. In fact, they average just 9.9 yards per catch, which is the sixth-fewest in the NFL. Indianapolis needs more from its wideouts.
