The Indianapolis Colts’ reconfigured defense will certainly receive a test against Derrick Henry and the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.
CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles has Henry going over 80 rushing yards against Indianapolis, listing the prop at -112 over at DraftKings as one of his best bets for the opening weekend.
"While I'm not quite as bullish on Derrick Henry as I am on Barkley, I'm willing to bet on a solid day for the ageless wonder," Pereles said.
Pereles acknowledged the Colts get an important piece back with a healthy DeForest Buckner. It's also worth pointing out that 2023 seventh-round pick Jovaughn Gwyn will be making his first start.
That said, Pereles noted Indianapolis’ unpredictability at linebacker as a reason Henry could find success.
Akeem Davis-Gaither and Jaylon Carlies are projected to start, while rookies CJ Allen and Bryce Boettcher provide depth. Carlies played only two defensive snaps last season.
Baltimore’s changes up front also factored into the prediction. The Ravens added guards John Simpson and Olaivavega Ioane, and new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle is expected to feature more snaps from under center.
That could suit Henry particularly well. Pereles noted Henry posted a 10.8% explosive-run rate with the quarterback under center, compared with 8% from shotgun, despite averaging slightly more yards per carry from shotgun.
Containing Henry will be one of the first noteworthy assignments for new Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.
