Following the Indianapolis Colts' 42-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Shane Steichen was asked about his job security.
"Clearly, I gotta do a better job," Steichen said, via Colts.com. "Plain and simple. It starts with me as the head coach. I gotta do a better job to get these guys ready to go because that wasn't it today."
A few minutes later, Steichen was asked again about his thoughts on his job status.
"I'm focused on getting better," Steichen said. "That's what I'm focused on right now. Nothing else."
The questions come after an uncompetitive performance by the Colts, which not only included losing by 35 points, but Indianapolis also found themselves down 28-0 at halftime.
In Steichen's own words, the Colts got "out-coached" and
"out-played" by the Jaguars.
In the bigger picture, Steichen's job status comes into question with organizational changes well underway as the team begins looking towards the future.
GM Chris Ballard was fired after Week 6, while Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner were traded after Week 7.Jonathan Taylor's future with the Colts is also up in the air, as are Josh Downs, Grover Stewart, and others.
The Colts are currently 2-6 on the year, with the Nov. 10 trade deadline quickly approaching.
