The Indianapolis Colts dropped their regular-season opener to the Baltimore Ravens, with the defense giving up a lot of yards and a lot of points.
For much of the game, the Colts had few answers for the Ravens' offense. As a unit, Baltimore averaged over 8.0 yards per play -- a massive amount. Last season, the LA Rams' offense led the NFL in this category, averaging 6.1 yards per play.
On both the ground and through the air, the Ravens were able to generate explosive plays.
Lamar Jackson was efficient and also averaged a whopping 13.0 yards per play. Derrick Henry averaged nearly 6.0 yards per rush while running for 135 yards.
Wide receiver Zay Flowers, a player that every team has a plan for, totaled 150 receiving yards on just five receptions.
The Colts pass rush also generated a modest two sacks and four quarterback hits.
The Ravens were clearly prepared for what the Colts were going to throw at them, and the execution by the players just wasn't there.
One game won't define a season, but for a Colts team that must make the playoffs in 2026, this is not the start they wanted to have.
