Heading into a Week 1 regular-season matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, who are the Indianapolis Colts' X-factors for this game?
We know that for the Colts to win games, their star players like Daniel Jones, Jonathan Taylor, Sauce Gardner, DeForest Buckner, and others must consistently play at a high level.
But the X-factor, who may not be of the same caliber as the players mentioned, can still have a major impact on the outcome, depending on how they play.
RT Jalen Travis
Travis made four starts last season, filling in for Braden Smith down the stretch, and was able to hold his own. However, now stepping into a full-time starting role, he will be one of the Colts' X-factors, not only for Week 1, but throughout the season. On an overall experienced offensive line
unit, Travis' lack of game reps could bring some uncertainty. However, if he can build upon last season's late performance and provide time for Daniel Jones, the Colts' passing game will then have the opportunity to reach its potential.
DE Arden Key
Questions around the depth of the Colts' defensive end rotation around Laiatu Latu have persisted all offseason, and they still remain. Key has shown that he can produce at a steady level, but he hasn't reached those high-end production totals that many starting defensive ends in the NFL have been able to hit. Key doesn't necessarily need to hit those marks for this season to be a success, but getting after the quarterback consistently opposite of Latu will do wonders for this defense.
CB Justin Walley
Since drafting Walley in 2025, the Colts have remained extremely bullish on his potential and the impact that he can make, even with him missing his entire rookie season due to injury. Walley again impressed this summer and will be the Colts' starting nickel cornerback. If he can perform at the level that the team believes he can, that only bolsters an already daunting Indianapolis secondary that features Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward at outside cornerback. If you're an opposing quarterback, where are you going with the ball?
