The Indianapolis Colts are on the road in Week 2, taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in what history tells us is a very important game, given the Colts' 0-1 start.
These two teams met last season in Kansas City as well, with the Chiefs winning 23-20 in overtime. So there is some familiarity between these two teams, however, each season and matchup presents new challenges.
For some insight into the 2026 Chiefs, John Dillon of Chiefs Wire answered a handful of our questions.
It's early, but what is the expected strength of the Chiefs this season?
Chiefs Wire: As always, Patrick Mahomes’ leadership is Kansas City’s greatest asset, but the Chiefs’ resurgent ground game will be a close second this season. Kenneth Walker III put together a marvelous performance in Week 1, and Andy Reid should be expected to continue relying
on the veteran rusher as Kansas City looks to maintain its momentum against Indianapolis.
On the flip side, what is an area of weakness?
Chiefs Wire: The Chiefs’ defensive backfield is relatively inexperienced, but the unit played well on ‘Monday Night Football’ last week. Kansas City started rookie UDFA Kahlil Benson at left tackle against the Broncos, who also exceeded expectations. On paper, the Chiefs have weaknesses in these areas, but Kansas City’s coaching staff did an excellent job of minimizing their deficiencies against Denver.
Who is an under-the-radar player for Colts' fans to know?
Chiefs Wire: Rookie running back Emmett Johnson looked great in limited action last week and could see more carries against the Colts if Kenneth Walker III has to come off the field for any reason. A former Nebraska Cornhusker, Johnson is known for his exceptional contact balance and ability to break tackles. Expect to see him get at least 5 touches in Week 2.
Prediction and score
Chiefs Wire: I've been picking against the Chiefs in recent predictions but think Kansas City is well-positioned to win this particular matchup. Steve Spagnuolo’s defense has proven that it can hang with the NFL’s top offenses, and while Patrick Mahomes’ Week 1 performance was mostly unremarkable, the Chiefs’ ground attack is terrifically exciting. Kansas City’s balanced approach on both sides of the ball will lift the Chiefs to their second victory of the 2026 regular season.
