Indianapolis Colts' GM Chris Ballard said before the season began that he expected Anthony Richardson to remain with the team.
Not long after that, Richardson's agent, Deiric Jackson, echoed similar sentiments.
Now nearly a month into the 2026 season, things have not changed, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
While Dan Graziano wondered if the Colts would be willing to move on from Richardson at some point this season in an effort to get something in return before he hits free agency this upcoming offseason, Fowler's sense is that Richardson will remain in Indianapolis.
"The Giants never called Indianapolis about Richardson's availability, but my sense is that the Colts don't want to trade him right now," Fowler wrote. "Perhaps that changes, but Richardson is QB2
despite neither he nor third-stringer Riley Leonard having particularly good camps."
Entering the final year of his rookie deal, Richardson made the trade request back in late February; however, nothing ever materialized.
With Richardson filling a key backup role and the Colts on the hook for just about all of his 2026 salary, unless Ballard were to be blown away by an offer, there isn't much of a reason for Indianapolis to move on from him at this point.
"Richardson would welcome the chance to learn behind the scenes in the McVay or Shanahan trees, but that doesn't feel feasible, at least this season," Fowler added.
