It was another shaky performance for Indianapolis Colts'quarterback Daniel Jones in Sunday's win against the Commanders.
Jones finished the game completing just 19-of-34 passes for 143 yards. He averaged just 4.2 yards per pass attempt, which, for some context, the 5.4 yards per pass attempt that the Arizona Cardinals are averaging this season ranks last in the NFL.
But worst of all were the turnovers. Jones again fumbled and then threw an interception later in the game.
"Definitely got to play better. Got to clean that up," Jones said afterward, via Colts.com. "Can't afford to turn the ball over like that."
Particularly in the first half of Sunday's game, Jones looked uncomfortable in the pocket, although he did begin to settle in more as the game went
on. Being able to lean on the run game helped with that.
However, not helping matters is the lack of a vertical passing game without Alec Pierce. Not only has it been difficult to generate explosive pass plays, but missing that element makes moving the ball on short to intermediate routes more difficult as well.
Now through four games, Jones has four total touchdowns to seven turnovers.
Over the last two weeks, the Colts have been able to overcome those turnover woes, but it goes without saying that this isn't sustainable either. Turnovers take points off the board for the Colts' offense and give the opponents additional scoring opportunities.
