Daniel Jones just signed a new deal with the Indianapolis Colts in the offseason, but his future with the team beyond the 2026 season is now up in the air.
Jones was asked on Wednesday if he's thought about what could be coming after the season.
“I think it’s natural for some of those thoughts," Jones said via The Athletic's James Boyd, "but like the rest of it, I can’t control that. What I can control right now is playing football and preparing as well as I can this week to play the Jaguars on Sunday. Play good football, put the team in a position to win, and that doesn't change. That's my approach, that's all of our approaches and it kind of has to be going into it."

Jones signed a two-year, $88 million deal at the start of the free-agent window back in March. However, despite the hefty amount of money in that deal, the Colts could still move on from Jones in the upcoming offseason.
According to Over the Cap, releasing Jones after the season would come with a $35.2 million dead cap hit, but it would still free up $11.6 million in cap space for the 2027 season.
If Jones were designated a post-June 1st release, the dead cap hit would be spread out over multiple seasons, but it would result in a cap savings of $38 million for the 2027 season.
It certainly isn't unusual for a new GM to want to reshape the roster and bring in his own guys, particularly at the quarterback position.
For now, this is just speculation, but it remains a possibility. Jones has completed just 59% of his passes at only 5.8 yards per attempt with four touchdowns to seven interceptions.
The play around him certainly hasn't helped his performance, but the Colts were expecting more from him when they signed him to this deal in the offseason.
Shane Steichen continues to say that the Colts will stick with Jones as their starting quarterback.
