Gardner is often matched up with the opponent's top wide receiver. If needed, Gardner can follow a receiver around the field pre-snap, and is often asked by Lou Anarumo to play on an island.

This season, Metcalf has caught 16 passes for 213 yards with a touchdown. Gardner, meanwhile, has allowed eight completions on 14 targets for 186 yards with three pass breakups.
