What is the story about?

Defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo said last week that theIndianapolis Coltswould rotate at the linebacker position.

Well, in Week 1, that was mostly true, but surprisingly, it didn't include rookie second-round pick CJ Allen.

As was expected, Akeem Davis-Gaither and Jaylon Carlies were the starters on Sunday. Davis-Gaither would play 64 of the 68 defensive snaps, while Carlies played 42 snaps. Rotated in with Carlies was rookie Bryce Boettcher, who played 23 defensive snaps, according to PFF.

Allen, however, did not see the field at all. He was the 53rd overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft.

Anarumo will speak with local reporters on Tuesday, at which point we should learn more about this development.

What we do know is that Allen missed his share of

time during training camp, particularly early on, navigating injuries. Missed practice time, especially for a rookie, are valuable reps that can't be replaced.

We will see if this trend continues into Week 2. Carlies had a quiet game, which could potentially mean more opportunities for Boettcher, or perhaps we'll see Allen for the first time in the regular season against Kansas City.
