The Indianapolis Colts’ depth at defensive end could make the position worth watching as the NFL’s roster deadline approaches.
CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards included the Colts’ edge rushers in the company of position groups around the league that could produce trade or waiver-wire targets before teams trim their rosters to 53 players.
Indianapolis has Laiatu Latu and Arden Key atop its current depth chart, with Jaylahn Tuimoloau, Micheal Clemons, George Gumbs Jr. and Caden Curry also competing for spots.
“They could, in theory, keep six edge rushers,” Edwards wrote, adding that the decision could depend on roster numbers elsewhere and special teams value.
The cramped room follows an offseason in which the Colts signed Key and Clemons after Kwity Paye
departed. Indianapolis has also invested heavily in young pass rushers, using a first-round pick on Latu in 2024, a second-rounder on Tuimoloau in 2025 and selections on Gumbs and Curry in the 2026 draft.
The rookies have provided nice returns so far. Curry recorded five tackles, a sack, two quarterback hits, two tackles for loss and two passes defensed in the preseason opener against the New England Patriots, while Gumbs also recorded a sack.
Indianapolis may laud that flexibility, but it could also attract calls from teams looking for help before final cuts.
