Indianapolis Colts' wide receiver Josh Downs is set to be a free agent during the 2027 offseason, and through three games this season, his price tag is only increasing.
Just as he was last year, Downs continues to be a go-to target for Daniel Jones and a reliable option in the passing game as well. Downs' 22 targets are the most on the team and he leads the Colts in receiving yards by a good margin. And of his 14 receptions, 12 have gone for a first down.
But going beyond his production, what's also noteworthy is how he's being utilized within the offense. With Alec Pierce sidelined, 26.8% of Downs' snaps this season have come lined up out wide, according to PFF, which is a career high.
He's also been targeted more downfield, with an average depth
of target of 11.0 yards this season -- another career-high. As a result, Downs is averaging -- yet another career high -- 13.3 yards per catch, not to mention that he continues to be effective with the ball in his hands, picking up YAC.
Since arriving to the NFL, Downs has been a very productive slot receiver, but his early production coupled with his expanded role could mean a big payday is coming his way.
