Keenan Allen has yet to take a practice rep with Daniel Jones as a member of the Indianapolis Colts, but head coach Shane Steichen already likes the potential synergy between his quarterback and newest wide receiver.
Allen signed with Indianapolis on Wednesday, providing Jones with an accomplished veteran target as the Colts approach the end of training camp.
Steichen believes their shared understanding of the passing game should help accelerate the process.
"It's going to be real fun," Steichen said, via Colts.com. "Those conversations that those guys are going to have, just the ins and outs on how to run routes, what they're looking at through a game plan week, going into game sideline adjustments. I think that's going to be a really smooth transition
with those two."
Allen's football IQ is a major cause of Steichen's confidence.
"He's the most cerebral receiver I've ever been around," Steichen said. "He sees the game like a quarterback."
Allen brings more than 1,000 career receptions and six Pro Bowl selections to Indianapolis.
The Colts will have the remainder of the training camp to begin working him into an offense that features Josh Downs, Tyler Warren, and Alec Pierce once he's back from injury.
But above all, Steichen can rest easy about how swiftly his new receiver and quarterback will get on the same page.
