The Indianapolis Colts have officially signed wide receiver Keenan Allen, giving quarterback Daniel Jones another weapon in the passing game.
"I'm excited to add Keenan to the group," Jones said on Wednesday. "We got a lot of really, really good playmakers in that room, guys who can do different things and bring different skill sets and it'll be great to have him."
Allen, 34, is a six-time Pro Bowler and has surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark six times in his career, most recently accomplishing that feat in 2023. Last season with the Chargers, he totaled 777 yards with four touchdowns.
"Obviously a guy who's played at the top of the league for a really long time now brings a ton of experience and knows how to get open," added Jones. "Played
at a really high level last year. I know he's got familiarity with this scheme and being with Shane in the past. So really looking forward to getting going just from a skill set standpoint."
Allen can immediately slot into the second starting outside wide receiver role opposite of Alec Pierce. He could potentially fill a Michael Pittman-like role within the offense as a potential high-volume target on short to intermediate throws, as well as in the red zone.
"I think for one, he's a bigger body guy and can create separation," said Jones. "I think on third down he's been huge. I think you look at the past few years and just another guy who knows how to get open and create space. I think that's helpful to have, definitely will be an important asset for him."
Allen's familiarity with Shane Steichen and his offense was abig reason he decided to sign with the Colts and can be what helps him hit the ground running.
