On Monday, the Big Ten Conference announced that Michigan State’s Jeremy Fears Jr. was the conference’s Preseason Player of the Year but one UCLA Bruin was named to the All-Big Ten team, with Trent Perry getting the nod.
11 players were named to the All-Big Ten team, with Illinois and Michigan being the only two schools to have multiple players selected. UCLA’s Los Angeles Big Ten counterpart, the USC Trojans, also had one player (Rodney Rice) selected.
Perry is set to begin his third season with the Bruins under head coach Mick Cronin. In 35 games last year (24 starts), Perry scored 12.6 points per game, shooting 43% from the field and 39% from three.
The 6’4” guard added 3.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists, finishing the season with the second-most
assists on the Bruins. Perry took a big step last year after averaging just 3.7 points per game as a freshman.
Perry, the Studio City native, stayed in Los Angeles for his college ball. UCLA landed the four-star recruit out of Harvard-Westlake after Perry committed, and then subsequently decommitted from USC.
UCLA will hope Perry can take a leading role this season with Skyy Clark and Donovan Dent both leaving Westwood after last season. Perry has a chance to usher in a new generation of Bruins basketball, with the program having high expectations for the new crop of UCLA freshman headlined by Nikola Kusturica and Joe Philon.
