It’s been a great first week on the job for the UCLA Bruins new athletic director and CEO Tim Harris. Not only did UCLA get a win to kick off the Bob Chesney era, Harris’ boss publicly affirmed that Harris has the job on a permanent basis.
To kick off the week, Harris donated 300 tickets for fans to attend the home opener this weekend against San Diego State. Harris paid for 300 sideline tickets to give away to fans, prompting Champion of Westwood CEO Ken Graiwer to match Harris’ donation and giving away 600 tickets.
The tickets were given away on a first-come, first-serve basis with a maximum of two seats per person. The Bruins will look to move to 2-0 as they take on an Aztecs team that is 1-0 after a 53-20 win over Portland State. During Chesney’s
press conference on Monday, the new head coach expressed a desire for a strong home crowd to kick off the season.
“This is a big one and obviously our students aren’t back yet, so that is what it is,” Chesney said. “We just need this community to come out and support at a level that they’ve never done in the past bunch of years. I told you it would be different on our side, we need it to be different on their side as well.”
Chesney is winning over fans by winning ball games, Harris is trying to do the same by getting fans to the Rose Bowl.
