What is the story about?

One former UCLA Bruin extended an over two-decade long for the Green Bay Packers over the weekend, with wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant making the Packers’ 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent, pushing Green Bay’s streak to 22 years in a row with a UDFA making their roster.

Sturdivant earned his spot, balling out in the preseason, including a six catch 112 yard performance in Week 3 of the preseason to help ensure his spot on the roster. The big performance last week came a bit out of nowhere, as Sturdivant caught only three total passes in the Packers’ first two preseason games.

The rookie wide out did not end his college career with the Bruins. After spending two years with Cal, and two more with UCLA, Sturdivant ended his NCAA career with the Florida

Gators in the SEC last year. The stint with Florida wasn’t Earth-shattering, as he put up 406 receiving yards with three touchdowns.

Sturdivant’s best statistical season came with Cal in 2022 as a freshman, putting up 755 yards and seven touchdowns. Sturdivant never matched those numbers with the Bruins but he did play in 24 games with UCLA, finding the end zone six times.

The UCLA alum took to Instagram to voice his appreciation after completing his dream of making an NFL roster.

“Life sure is crazy. I'm writing this with tears of joy streaming down my face and can’t believe I can tell this little kid that his dreams were never out of reach. There has been nights where I've cried myself to sleep wondering why things aren’t going as I pictured them in my head and waves of confusion and frustration started to blur my focus at a lot of points in this life,” Sturdivant wrote. “Dreams aren’t put into your head for them to stay there and nothing ever happens on accident. I'm so grateful for the support system that the Lord has blessed me with and will never understand how I got so lucky. never give up on your dreams and always believe in yourself even if you’re the only one that does.”
