The UCLA Bruins battled for four quarters against the San Diego State Aztecs, ultimately pulling out a 28-10 win to move to 2-0. That’s something that two premier Big Ten Conference rivals can’t say, with the Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes can’t say.
Ohio State and Oregon both went on the road and dropped games in Week 2, the Oklahoma State Cowboys were able to knock off Dante Moore and the Ducks 39-31 while Julian Sayin and the Buckeyes watched a 23-3 lead turn into a 24-23 loss against Texas.
Of course both Oregon and Ohio State remain as title contenders even with the early-season loss, it does show that even strong programs can drop surprising games under the right circumstances.
UCLA is one of 11 Big Ten teams that is still unbeaten
on the season, with only No. 14 USC, No. 18 Iowa, No. 19 Michigan, No. 14 Penn State and reigning national champion No. 4 Indiana being the only five Big Ten teams that are ranked and unbeaten.
Oregon’s loss had a larger effect in the polls than Ohio State’s. The Buckeyes dropped from No. 1 down to No. 6 while the Ducks dropped all the way down to No. 22. If Oregon ends up being less of a contender than previously thought, it makes UCLA’s regular season look less daunting.
UCLA will host Purdue, head to Maryland and then go north to face Oregon at Autzen Stadium. After the Oregon game, UCLA will play three-straight at the Rose Bowl, facing Wisconsin, Michigan State and Nevade. The Bruins’ regular season ends with trips to Minnesota and Michigan and home games versus Illinois and USC.
