It was a quiet week for the UCLA Bruins, with Bob Chesney’s team enjoying a bye after getting off to a 4-0 start to their season. Despite not seeing any game action over the weekend, UCLA rose one spot in the USA TODAY US LBM Coaches Poll.
The Bruins burst onto the poll last week, earning the No. 23 spot but with fellow Big Ten Conference schools Penn State and Michigan dropping out of the poll, it allowed for UCLA to climb to No. 22.
Chesney is just four games into his UCLA tenure but he already has his team as the sixth-highest ranked Big Ten team according to the US LBM Coaches Poll. The defending champion Indiana Hoosiers are leading the way for the Big Ten at No. 5, Ohio State is right behind them at No. 6. The Oregon Ducks checked in at No. 13
with USC and Iowa being back-to-back at No. 17 and No. 18.
Nebraska, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Minnesota all received votes, while Penn State and Michigan were dropped off entirely after their Week 5 losses.
Will UCLA be able to make it three-straight weeks in the Coaches Poll? It’ll likely take an impressive showing in Eugene against Oregon for the Bruins to not fall out of the Top-25. The Ducks head into the game as 12.5 point favorites but Chesney has created a sense of belief within the UCLA football program, which has helped the team get ranked in the early-stages of Chesney’s Bruin career.
