The UCLA Bruins triumphant win over the California Golden Bears in Week 1 gave them four votes in the first USA TODAY Sports US LBM Coaches Poll of the 2026 season.
Although the Bruins didn't receive as many votes as they did in the first Associated Press' Top-25 rankings, head coach Bob Chesney's team became the fourth Big Ten team to receive votes yet remain unranked in the US LBM Coaches Poll. The other unranked conference teams to receive votes were Illinois with 45, Nebraska nabbed 11 and Minnesota had nine.
There were seven ranked Big Ten teams in the US LBM Coaches Poll in the first week with No. 1 Ohio State remaining on top. The 2025 National Champions and No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers moved up a spot with their 36-point Week 1 blowout against
North Texas.
Meanwhile, the No. 6 Oregon Ducks slow start against Boise State cost them four ranks as they dropped out of the Top-5. Eight ranks later and the No. 14 USC Trojans remain seated as the No. 16 Penn State Nittany Lions climbed up one spot.
The No. 19 Washington Huskies also stayed put, but the No. 21 Iowa Hawkeyes are right on their tail as they shift up one rank. The No. 24 Michigan Wolverines had the steepest decline of any ranked team as their last second escape against Western Michigan cost them eight ranks.
All in all, that puts the Bruins as the No. 12 ranked team in the Big Ten Conference after Week 1 based off the votes by the US LBM Coaches Poll voters.
