UCLA Bruins women's basketball alumna Kiki Rice is thriving during her rookie campaign in the WNBA.
The Toronto point guard has become a foundational piece for the Tempo during its inaugural season. Due to the ongoing FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Germany, a majority of the W took a midseason break, which gave Rice a chance to reset and reevaluate entering the home stretch of the season.
"I still have some time left, so I think if you ask me after our last four games, I’ll have a complete answer," Rice told the media on Thursday about her rookie year. "Obviously, I felt like it’s been a lot of growth, a lot of really good opportunity, especially recently. It’s been a lot of opportunity to go out there and get better and get a lot reps in areas
that I think are going to be really good for me for the rest of my career.
"Injuries were a big thing because I obviously missed a lot of time. That was unfortunate because I felt like I was starting to really hit a groove. It took some time to get that back. Overall, my biggest goal this year was just to learn to soak in everything that I can and continue to like step forward in the right direction — and I think I did that overall regardless of the time off."
Toronto returns to action at 4:30 p.m. PST, Friday at home against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
