It’s been years since the UCLA Bruins’ football program has had this much momentum. UCLA remains undefeated in the 2026 season entering the team’s Week 7 matchup against Wisconsin.
Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young appeared on College Gameday Saturday morning and during the show, Young revealed that he wanted to become a Bruin before ultimately spending his college days at BYU.
It’s a bit of a surprise considering Young’s the great-great-great grandson of Brigham Young, the same Brigham Young that Brigham Young University is named after. Even with the family ties to BYU, the lefty quarterback wanted to wind up in Westwood.
“I grew up on the East Coast watching the Rose Bowl every year, with the sunshine and the cheerleaders and all of it,” Young
said. “UCLA and the colors. I had secretly prayed I could be a Bruin all my life.”

Young confessed his fondness of UCLA while choosing the Bruins to knock off 4-1 Wisconsin in Week 7. Young is one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, having won two MVP awards, three Super Bowls and was named to seven Pro Bowls.
Young’s BYU career was pretty tremendous too, finishing in second place for the 1983 Heisman Trophy award while being named an All-American. If UCLA could have gone from Young to Troy Aikman at quarterback in the 1980s, who knows what the program could have accomplished.
