We’re just a few days away from the UCLA Bruins first cross-country trip of the season, with the 3-0 Bruins heading to College Park, Maryland to face the 2-1 Terrapins in a game where UCLA could move to 4-0 heading into their bye.
As to be expected in the sport of football, UCLA won’t be at full force for Saturday’s game. Both Maryland and UCLA had their midweek availability report on Wednesday, with both teams announcing that several players will be out for the Week 4 matchup.
UCLA will be without wide receivers Mikey Matthews and Jonah Smith, defensive backs Tao Johnson, Joshua Dixon, Jamier Johnson and offensive lineman Sam Yoon, with all six players being ruled out. Wide receiver Aidan Mizzell, tight end Josh Phifer and offensive lineman Mack
Indestad are all ruled questionable with defensive back Jhase McMillan being listed as probable.

UCLA head coach Bob Chesney announced that Matthews will be done for the season after undergoing foot surgery. With Matthews and Smith out, and Mizzell listed as questionable, it’ll be another opportunity for Semaj Morgan, Leland Smith and Brian Rowe Jr. in the passing game. Johnson will miss another game, the Utah transfer was injured in the season opener against Cal and has yet to return.
Maryland’s injury report is even longer, with 16 players already being ruled out, four players named questionable and one player, offensive lineman Teagan Cox, listed as doubtful. The Terrapins are coming into the game after losing a nonconference game to Virginia Tech last week, meaning the Bruins will head into the game with a bit wind blowing in their sails.
